About Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin

The frozen red curry arrives under a cloud of nitrogen fog. It is the dish that first won Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin its Michelin star, and the clearest statement of what the restaurant does: Thai flavour rebuilt with the techniques of a Nordic tasting kitchen. The room sits inside the Siam Kempinski Hotel, a few steps behind Siam Paragon on Rama I Road.

It is the Bangkok outpost of Kiin Kiin, the Copenhagen restaurant that earned a Michelin star for Thai food in Denmark — a rare reversal. See the wider scene on the Bangkok dining guide, or set it beside the regional Thai cooking at Aksorn.

The Kitchen

The menu is the work of Danish chef Henrik Yde-Andersen, who built a string of Thai restaurants in Copenhagen before opening here in 2010, alongside resident Thai head chef Chayawee “Berm” Sutcharitchan. The signature frozen red curry pairs a sweet, lychee-scented curry kept frozen over liquid nitrogen with a sous-vide lobster salad — hot-and-cold, savoury-and-sweet in one bite.

The format is a seasonal tasting menu, currently “Whispers of the Land,” running from a THB 2,200 lunch up to the seven-sequence dinner at THB 4,800 (plus service and tax). The restaurant held one Michelin star for six consecutive years, 2018 through 2023. For the full arc of Yde-Andersen's hot-cold game, take the longer dinner menu rather than the lunch.

The Room

The dining room is theatrical but composed: dark tones, lotus-pond motifs (sra bua means lotus pond), low light and well-spaced tables that keep conversation easy even as plates billow smoke. Service is formal and polished, in keeping with a Kempinski address. Dress is smart — no shorts or flip-flops. Dinner runs from 18:00; the room seats a comfortable, unhurried number rather than a crowd.

Best for an Anniversary

Book Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin for an anniversary because the cooking is built for a sense of occasion: dishes that arrive smoking and shifting temperature, a quiet well-spaced room, and a tasting-menu pace that gives a celebration its arc. Reserve the longer dinner menu a week or two out, ask for a corner table, and let them know you are marking something. The same polish and discretion make it a confident room to impress a client.

Not for

Not for anyone after a cheap, fiery street-style Thai meal — this is a hotel tasting menu with hotel pricing, and the heat is dialled back and refined rather than market-stall fierce.

Frequently Asked

Is Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin worth it?

Yes, for modern Thai fine dining. The restaurant held a Michelin star for six straight years (2018–2023), and chef Henrik Yde-Andersen's hot-cold cooking — led by the frozen red curry — is genuinely distinctive. It is priced and paced as a luxury tasting menu, so go for an occasion rather than a casual dinner.

How hard is it to book Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin?

Moderately. As a hotel tasting-menu restaurant it has fewer covers than a casual room, so weekend dinners and the longer menus should be booked one to two weeks ahead through the restaurant or the Siam Kempinski Hotel. Lunch and weekday seats are easier to secure.

What is the dress code at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin?

Smart-casual to smart. No shorts, vests or flip-flops; a collared shirt or a dress is the norm in this Kempinski dining room. You do not need a jacket, but the setting rewards dressing up for an anniversary or a client dinner.

How much is the tasting menu at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin?

The current “Whispers of the Land” menus run from about THB 2,200 for a three-course lunch to THB 3,800 and THB 4,800 for the five- and seven-sequence dinners, before the 10% service charge and tax. Wine and zero-proof pairings are charged separately.

Is Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin good for an anniversary?

It is one of Bangkok's better anniversary rooms. The theatrical plating, the calm well-spaced tables and the tasting-menu pacing all suit a celebration. Take the longer dinner menu and request a corner table — see more options on the best restaurants for an anniversary guide.
