About Grill Royal

Since 2007, Grill Royal has been Berlin's steakhouse-as-stage — a low-lit room on the Spree at Friedrichstrasse 105b where politicians, artists and visiting film talent fill the late tables. The cooking is serious enough to back the scene: it appears on the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list (No. 83 in 2025), with chef Florian Glauert sending out the beef.

It is the splashier counterweight to Berlin classics like Borchardt and natural-wine rooms such as Cordobar.

The Kitchen

The draw is dry-aged beef, sourced widely and grilled hard: the Chateaubriand for two, a dry-aged ribeye, and a bavette finished with bone-marrow butter are the perennials, with Kobe priced by the 100 grams for the expense-account crowd. Oysters and a raw-bar overture open most meals. It is unapologetically a steakhouse, run at a level the celebrity room could otherwise coast on.

The Room

The space is a maze of art-hung walls, white linen and amber light along the river, busiest well after 10pm. Service is slick and used to VIPs. Value is not the point — the bill reflects the address and the audience — but the energy is genuinely Berlin's own.

Best for Closing a Deal

Grill Royal is purpose-built to close a deal or impress a client: a confident, expensive room where the steak and the scene both signal intent. It also carries a celebratory team dinner.

Not for

Not for a quiet, intimate dinner or a tight budget — this is a loud, late, expensive scene where you are paying for spectacle as much as steak.
