The Kitchen

The Goring is one of the last dining rooms in London to carve a whole beef Wellington from a silver trolley at the table, and that detail tells you what kind of kitchen this is: classical British technique, executed in the open, with no interest in reinvention for its own sake. Executive chef Graham Squire has run the Dining Room since 2019, after training in the Michelin kitchens of Claridge's and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and a head-chef stint at the starred Trinity in Clapham. The cooking is precise rather than experimental, built on British produce and old-school saucework.

The signature is Eggs Drumkilbo, the Queen Mother's favourite: a cold construction of quail's egg, Cornish crab, native lobster and aged caviar, on the menu for years and still the most-ordered plate at £45. The Goring native lobster omelette has its own following, the dry-aged Aylesbury duck is the kitchen's other set piece, and the Longhorn beef Wellington for two is £134 off the trolley. À la carte mains run £45 to £78, and you should expect from £90 a head before wine. The Dining Room, at 15 Beeston Place in Belgravia, has held a Michelin star since 2016.

The Room

The Dining Room looks onto the hotel's private garden and is grand without being stiff: silvered walls, a famous whimsical mural of monkeys drinking Champagne, generous table spacing and low, flattering light. It is quiet and unhurried, a room built for conversation rather than spectacle. Dress is smart, jackets are encouraged for men though ties are not required, and sportswear, trainers, shorts and ripped jeans are not welcome. The service is the warm, practised kind a family-owned five-star hotel has spent more than a century refining.

Best for a Proposal

Book the Goring for a proposal because it is built for the occasions that matter and discreet about them. The garden-facing Dining Room is quiet enough to hear a yes, the staff will quietly help stage the moment if you mention it at booking, and the whole hotel carries the weight of an institution that has hosted the British establishment since 1910, including the Middleton family the night before the 2011 royal wedding. Order the Wellington for two and let the trolley do the theatre.

Not For

Skip the Goring if you want modern, boundary-pushing cooking or a relaxed dress code: this is classical British food in a jacket-encouraged room, and the bill climbs fast once caviar and the £134 Wellington arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Goring Dining Room worth it?
Yes, if you want classical British cooking and old-school occasion rather than novelty. The Dining Room has held a Michelin star since 2016, executive chef Graham Squire cooks precise, produce-led British food, and the family-owned hotel's service is among London's warmest. It is expensive and unapologetically traditional, so it suits a celebration more than a casual dinner. For more, see the full London dining guide.

How many Michelin stars does The Goring have?
One. The Dining Room at The Goring holds one Michelin star in the 2026 guide, first awarded in 2016 under then-chef Shay Cooper and retained since, now under Graham Squire. The Goring is also the only hotel to hold a Royal Warrant for hospitality. Within the hotel, the star belongs specifically to the Dining Room, not the Veranda or afternoon tea.

What is the dress code at The Goring Dining Room?
Smart, with jackets encouraged for men though ties are not required. The Goring asks guests to avoid sportswear, athletic trainers, shorts and ripped jeans. The Dining Room is a grand, traditional space and most diners dress up for it. You will be comfortable in a jacket or smart equivalent and underdressed in casual wear.

What should I order at The Goring?
Order the Eggs Drumkilbo, the Queen Mother's favourite, a cold dish of quail's egg, Cornish crab, native lobster and aged caviar for £45. The Goring native lobster omelette and the dry-aged Aylesbury duck are the other signatures, and for two the Longhorn beef Wellington at £134, carved from the silver trolley, is the set piece worth the order.

How much does dinner at The Goring Dining Room cost?
Expect from £90 per person à la carte before wine. Starters run roughly £20 to £45, mains £45 to £78, and the beef Wellington for two is £134. Caviar and the wine list push the bill higher quickly. The set lunch and pre-theatre menus are the more affordable ways in; dinner à la carte is the full, expensive experience.
