Christopher's at Wrigley Mansion is chef Christopher Gross's tasting-menu restaurant, set in a glass-and-steel pavilion below a eucalyptus grove at the landmark Wrigley Mansion above the Biltmore in Phoenix. Gross, a James Beard Award winner long associated with French cooking in Arizona, opened the room in 2021 and earned a 2022 James Beard Outstanding Chef nomination for it. The walls cantilever open and the roof retracts to the desert sky, with an open kitchen built around a wood-fired grill.

The Kitchen

The format is a single eight-course tasting menu, priced at $275 per person plus tax and service, with an optional wine pairing. Gross cooks a modern-French menu that changes constantly, threading luxe ingredients through dishes such as caviar-topped scallops and Wagyu sukiyaki, with an amuse often presented by the chef himself and the kitchen team serving courses at the table. A wood-fired grill anchors the open kitchen, and the cooking carries the technique that earned Gross his James Beard Award and the 2025 Antonin Careme Medal. It is an expensive evening by Phoenix standards, but the pricing buys a multi-course, chef-served experience rather than a la carte dining; the kitchen also runs a classics service earlier in the week.

The Room

The room is the draw as much as the food: a modern glass-and-steel structure with walls that cantilever open and a retractable roof, set beneath a towering eucalyptus grove on the Wrigley Mansion grounds high above the Biltmore corridor. It is intimate, dramatic and built for an occasion, with the open wood-fired kitchen as the centrepiece. The tasting menu runs Thursday to Saturday, with a classics service Tuesday and Wednesday, and the restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday. The setting and the chef-served format make it a natural for proposals, anniversaries and impressing a guest, and booking well ahead is essential for the tasting nights.
