About Nue

Nue opened in 2015 at 1519 14th Ave on Capitol Hill, the idea of Chris Cvetkovich, who has eaten his way through more than fifty countries and developed the menu with executive chef Joe Swain. The kitchen collects hard-to-find street dishes from around the world and cooks them with care, a decade-long project that has drawn Food Network and Atlas Obscura.

It sits among the neighbourhood's most distinctive rooms. Compare the soul-food kitchen Communion, the daily-pasta counter Il Corvo and Renee Erickson's How to Cook a Wolf, or browse the full Seattle dining guide.

The Kitchen

The menu is a tour of the world's street food, built for sharing. The dishes to order are the mellow Trinidad goat curry, the Burmese tea-leaf salad and the Romanian mititei (mici), with South African bunny chow, Szechuan chicken wings and Malaysian prawns close behind. Finish with the house ice creams, frozen with liquid nitrogen in rotating flavours like Vietnamese coffee and Yemeni lime.

It is fair value: small plates run roughly $10 to 18, with most diners spending around $30 to 45 a head over a few plates and a drink.

The Room

The room is casual and convivial, decorated with travel finds and built for a sociable, graze-and-share meal rather than a formal sit-down. Service is friendly and happy to steer first-timers through the far-flung menu. The mood is relaxed and curious, well suited to a group, an easy date or a solo seat. Booking is wise at weekends.

Best for a relaxed, adventurous dinner in Seattle

Nue suits an easy, adventurous night — the share plates and far-flung flavours make it a fun first date or sociable team dinner, and a comfortable spot for solo dining on Capitol Hill. For more of the city's rooms, see Communion or browse the full Seattle dining guide.

Not for

Not for a formal, fine-dining or quiet occasion — Nue is a casual, lively share-plate room built for adventurous global street food, not a dressed-up dinner.
