About Nobu Tokyo

Nobu Tokyo is the Tokyo flagship of Nobu Matsuhisa, the chef who built a global group with Robert De Niro after opening the first Nobu in New York in 1994. The Tokyo branch followed in 1998 and now occupies the ground floor of Toranomon Tower in central Minato — the home table of a name that has since spread across the world.

It is a fixture of Tokyo's international fine-dining scene. For other rooms in that bracket, compare the modern Japanese at Den, the contemporary French at Esquisse and the bistronomy at Crony, or browse our Japanese picks.

The Kitchen

The cooking is the Japanese-Peruvian style Nobu Matsuhisa made famous. The dish to order is the black cod marinated for days in sweet den miso, then grilled until it flakes; the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño runs it close. Beyond the signatures, the kitchen turns out tiradito, new-style sashimi, tempura and sushi.

The simplest route is the chef's omakase, offered at three price points, which walks through an appetiser, sushi and sashimi, a fish course, a wagyu course and dessert. A 15% service charge is added to the bill.

The Room

The dining room is a sleek, low-lit Minato space built for business as much as romance, with a sushi counter, table seating and a long cocktail and wine list. Service is smooth and bilingual, used to an international room.

It is polished rather than intimate — the kind of address that reassures a client and reads as a safe, recognisable choice in any city in the world.

Best for closing a deal in Tokyo

Nobu Tokyo suits business — the global name, the smooth service and the omakase make it a confident table to close a deal or impress clients in Tokyo. For other tables in the city, see Aragawa or browse the full Tokyo dining guide.

Not for

Not for a diner chasing a small, chef-led counter or a bargain — this is a polished global-brand room at top-end prices, not a hidden local find.
