About IGNIV Zürich

IGNIV is Romansh for nest, and the Zurich branch of Andreas Caminada's sharing concept is built to pull a table inward. It opened in 2020 inside the Marktgasse Hotel in the Niederdorf, on the right bank of the Limmat, and held two Michelin stars by 2022 and 17 GaultMillau points from 2023. Patricia Urquiola designed the room: heavy velvet, a low chandelier, turquoise and rust upholstery. It is theatrical without tipping into kitsch.

The format is the point. Head chef Daniel Zeindlhofer cooks Caminada's sharing menu, a four-course progression at CHF 186 built to be passed across the table rather than eaten alone. An intense fish soup and a duck-and-venison terrine with black truffle and brioche are the dishes that stay with you. À la carte supplements add flexibility without breaking the sharing structure.

Caminada is the three-star chef behind Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau, regularly among the world's fifty best. IGNIV is the urban, lower-stakes expression of that kitchen, calibrated for a city rather than a mountain. The adjacent IGNIV Bar, the first in the group, is worth a drink before or after.

Best for a First Date

A sharing menu is the most considerate format a first date can get. No separate orders, no menu paralysis, no ordering envy. The same plates land in front of both of you and you divide them as you talk. The velvet room flatters without trying, the two stars signal effort without intimidation, and at CHF 186 it costs less than the comparable two-star rooms across town. Book the earlier seating for a quieter room and let the kitchen set the pace.

Best for a Team Dinner

Sharing plates flatten a hierarchy faster than place settings ever will. When the same venison crosses the table from the partner to the new hire, the room loosens. IGNIV's long tables take groups without strain, and a private room handles parties that need the door shut. The midday business lunch is the cheaper way to test the concept before committing a whole evening to it.

Not For

Not for a solo diner who wants a plate to themselves, and not for picky eaters or anyone with hard dietary limits, since the menu is fixed and built for sharing. Skip it if you want a hushed, formal two-star room; IGNIV is warm, social and a little loud by design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IGNIV Zürich worth it? Yes. Two Michelin stars since 2022, a Patricia Urquiola room, and Andreas Caminada's name behind the pass make it one of Zurich's best tables, and at CHF 186 for the four-course sharing menu it undercuts the city's comparable two-star rooms. Go for a first date or a small celebration, not a solo dinner.

What should I order at IGNIV Zürich? The menu is a fixed sharing progression, so the question is mostly answered for you, but the intense fish soup and the duck-and-venison terrine with black truffle and brioche are the recurring highlights. Add à la carte supplements if you want more, and let the kitchen pace the table.

How much does IGNIV Zürich cost? The four-course sharing menu is CHF 186 per person, with à la carte supplements and wine on top, so a full dinner with pairings runs higher. It is still priced below Zurich's other two-star rooms, which is part of the appeal. The IGNIV Bar next door is a cheaper way in.

How hard is it to book IGNIV Zürich? Book two to three weeks ahead, longer for Friday and Saturday and the December season. The room is small and the sharing format means tables turn slowly, so prime evening slots go first. Reserve through the restaurant or the hotel, and ask about the private room for groups.
