About Astrid y Gastón

Gastón Acurio moved Astrid y Gastón into the 17th-century Casa Moreyra hacienda in San Isidro in 2014, and the address at Av. Paz Soldán 290 has anchored modern Peruvian cooking ever since. Acurio and his wife Astrid Gutsche opened the original in 1994; the kitchen's novoandina dishes helped put Lima on the map a decade before the city's tasting-menu boom. The Kitchen

Acurio trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris before returning to Lima and, with Astrid Gutsche on pastry, building Peru's most influential restaurant group. Astrid y Gastón is the flagship: a kitchen that codified novoandina cooking, pulling Andean grains, Amazonian fruit and criollo technique into a fine-dining frame. The signature cuy pekinés, guinea pig served Peking-duck style with bao and plum, has been on the menu for years, alongside causas, tiraditos and seasonal tasting menus from the Casa Moreyra garden. Casa Moreyra is a restored colonial hacienda, so the experience spreads across several dining rooms and a courtyard garden rather than one box. Tables are generously spaced, the sound level is comfortable for a business conversation, and lighting is warm. Around 120 covers means the room has energy without crowding.
