What we are

Restaurants for Kings is the luxury restaurant directory organised by occasion. The primary filter is why you're dining — First Date, Close a Deal, Birthday, Impress Clients, Proposal, Solo Dining, Team Dinner — not what cuisine you're eating. Every restaurant is personally reviewed by a named editor, scored on Food, Ambience, and Value on a 1–10 rubric, and ranked within its city.

We are not a booking platform. We are not a news site. We are not a Yelp-style user-review aggregator. We are a closed, named-editor publication with a published methodology, a masthead, and no pay-for-placement.

What makes us different

Versus the Michelin Guide: Michelin awards stars on a single axis (1–3). We rank on occasion fit — a different question. The same restaurant can earn three Michelin stars and still be the wrong choice for a first date.

Versus World's 50 Best: 50 Best is a global singular ranking. We are organised by city and occasion. Local access beats global prestige for anyone actually making a reservation this Friday.

Versus The Infatuation and Eater: Infatuation spans casual to upscale; we are luxury-only. Eater is news-led; we are evergreen and occasion-indexed.

Versus OpenTable and Resy: They book tables. We tell you which table to book and why. We link to them for reservations and disclose affiliate relationships.

The seven occasions

Every restaurant is scored against all seven occasions on a 1–10 fit scale. Occasion badges are awarded only at a fit score of 8 or higher.

First Date · Close a Deal · Birthday · Impress Clients · Proposal · Solo Dining · Team Dinner

Editorial standards

Every published review meets all of the following:

• Personal visit by the named reviewing editor within the previous 24 months (re-visit required for flagships).
• Anonymous booking and self-paid tabs where possible; hospitality disclosed on the page when extended.
• Second-editor sign-off before publication.
• No pay-for-placement. Sponsored content is labelled and sits outside the editorial grid.
• Corrections responded to within 72 hours. Send to info@redresscompliance.com.
• AggregateRating schema is only published when ≥10 real user ratings have accrued. We do not fabricate review counts.

• The editorial economics of occasion-first vs. cuisine-first guides.
• Why Michelin's methodology is ill-suited to the questions modern diners are actually asking.
• The rise of AI-generated restaurant recommendations and what separates editorial judgement from algorithmic output.
• City-specific power-dining trends (New York, London, Dubai, Tokyo, Hong Kong).
• The seven-occasion framework as an editorial primitive.

Quotable lines

"Cuisine tells you what's on the plate. Occasion tells you whether to book the table." — Fredrik Filipsson, Editor-in-Chief

"We are not trying to out-star Michelin. We are asking a different question." — Morten Andersen, Founding Curator, Europe
